Wanted to give a big thanks to Chicago Home+Garden for publishing a wonderful layout on one of our favorite KitchenLab projects in conjunction with Boomgaarden Architects on Chicago’s North Shore, in the issue hitting stands now. We subscribe to this home town mag and think their work is of the highest quality. The photography Eric Hausman and styling by Diane Ewing is amazing as is the writing by Strange Closet’s Tate Gunnerson. (Speaking of which…you can peer inside all the rooms of this house, if interested, on Strange Closets). If you've been contemplating adding that mudroom for all your childrens sports equipment, or if your kitchen is in need of a facelift, or if your front porch is in need of a rehab to bring your century old home back into it's original glory, we will be offering an informational booth for our neighbors of Wilmette. Come with your questions and leave with detailed answers as to the process of working with an architect, the local building department, variance submittals, timelines and discussing your potential project with the people who actually swing a hammer. We hope you can make it.
The Wilmette Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its Annual Sidewalk Sale & Family Fun Fest on Friday and Saturday, July 9 -10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The Fest features two days of great entertainment, delicious food, crafts, children’s activities, petting zoo, and “the best bargains on the North Shore” on merchandise from Wilmette’s finest stores, specialty vendors, artisans, crafters and antique dealers.
Shoppers are also invited to enjoy great family entertainment both days beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Everybody’s favorite disc jockey Bizar Entertainment will perform this year and a popular magician will give two performances on Saturday. Kids will also enjoy free face painting, free balloon animals, moon-bounce tent, sidewalk decorating, treats, exciting giveaways and other fun activities.
In addition, Wilmette Pet Center will host a petting zoo and other activities at its location on Green Bay Road.

This Completion Party is celebrated the conclusion of a 16 month ordeal that started with a frozen water pipe while the owners were away for the holidays. The journey took the owners through some false starts and then a connection with Boomgaarden Architects of Wilmette and Building Vision of Evanston. These two, along with a team of more than 25 subcontractors and vendors, transformed a gutted 1905 Craftsman style home into the showpiece on display at this event. What started as a crowded and inefficient layout with structural and mechanical systems that fell way short of current code minimums, became a spacious, modern and efficient new home inside the same masonry shell.
Thanks for joining us to hear more about this transformation and learning some invaluable tips about your homeowner's insurance, and "code upgrade" coverage for your older home. Everyone who attended was entered to win fabulous door prizes such as Cubs/Sox tickets, Eli Cheesecakes, Prairie Grass Cafe gift certificates and an Apple iPad. Thank you to all who attended.
